His performance on the court has been strong, averaging 14 points, 4 rebounds, and 7 assists thus far in the 2021-22 NBA season. That said, he will need to continue to perform at this level or better over an extended period of time to lower his risk profile.
Second, Haliburton plays for the Sacramento Kings. The Kings are a small market team and will likely struggle against ‘NBA Super Teams,’ which now dominate the NBA. It is difficult to imagine significant movement in Haliburton’s rookie card values without an NBA title or at least a deep playoff run.
As a result of the analysis above, we consider Tyrese Haliburton rookie cards to have moderate risk.
Why do we believe Tyrese Haliburton rookie cards have moderate to high upside potential?
Collectors/investors recently purchased Tyrese Haliburton Prizm #262 base rookie cards with SGC 10 grade for $30-40, as of December 2021. This sets the baseline for this analysis.
LaMelo Ball rookie cards trade for 4-5x the price of Tyrese Haliburton’s cards. For example, collectors/investors recently purchased the same LaMelo card for ~$150.
Given that Ball and Haliburton play the same position and are members of the same rookie class, we can conclude that Haliburton’s cards have significant upside potential. That said, Haliburton has a long way to go to achieve the same level of fame and notoriety as Ball.
Therefore, we believe Tyrese Haliburton’s rookie cards have moderate to high upside potential, but we also believe he will need to achieve significant career milestones to realize this upside.
